John James 'J.J.' Ferris. Gloucestershire, New South Wales, South Australia, Australia and England 1886-1898. Official folding card given 'To the Members of the Australian Cricket Team 1935-1936. In memory of a kindly thought' on the occasion of the Australian's visit to the grave of Ferris in Durban, 17th November 1935. To the centre pages is a mono photograph of Ferris' tombstone. Originally from the effects of Clarrie Grimmett. Sold with an original sepia photograph of Ferris, three quarter length wearing cricket attire and holding a ball. 3.5"x5.5". Some staining to the photograph, the card in very good condition

Ferris played eight Tests for Australia. He later settled in England for whom he played one Test in Cape Town on the 1891/92 tour. He died in Durban in 1900 of enteric fever, aged 33, while serving for the British Army in the Boer War

Australia tour to South Africa 1935/36. Official mono photograph of the Australian touring party seated and standing in rows wearing tour blazers. Printed title to top border of the mount, the lower border very nicely signed by all seventeen members of the touring party. Signatures include Richardson (Captain), O'Reilly, Fingleton, Barnett, Fleetwood-Smith, Chipperfield, Grimmett, McCabe, Oldfield, Darling etc. This was Clarrie Grimmett's personal copy. The photograph measures 9.5"x7.5", laid to photographer's mount, overall 15"x11.5". Photographer unknown. Very good condition

Australia tour to South Africa 1935/36. Excellent and unusual mono photograph of members of the Australia touring party sitting in pairs in carriages with African natives in between each carriage in full ceremonial dress, set in a large and ornate garden. The photograph fully signed in ink to lower half by all members of touring party. Signatures include Richardson (Captain), O'Reilly, Fingleton, Barnett, Fleetwood-Smith, Chipperfield, Grimmett, McCabe, Oldfield, Darling etc. This was Clarrie Grimmett's personal copy. The photograph measures 10"x8", laid to mount overall 11"x8.5". VG

Australia tour to South Africa 1935/36. Original mono press photograph of four members of the Australian touring party, standing outside a hotel wearing suits. The players are O'Reilly, Grimmett, Rowe (Manager), Richardson (Captain), also Geddie, secretary of the South African Natal Cricket Assocation. The photograph by C.W. Simons, Natal Advertiser, Durban, measures 7"x5". Some creasing and tape reinforcement to verso, otherwise in good condition. Also a mono candid photograph of members of the Australian touring party wearing suits, apparently on an excursion with a lady. Players featured include Barnett, McCormick, Grimmett (holding a camera), McCabe, Richardson etc. 8.5"x6". Both photographs ex Clarrie Grimmett collection. G

Australia tour to South Africa 1935/36. Original 'First Class Cabin Passengers' Contract Ticket' issued by Shaw Savill & Albion Co. Ltd (White Star Aberdeen Service) of London, to Clarrie Grimmett for the return voyage from Cape Town to Adelaide. Ex Clarries Grimmett collection. The touring party left Cape Town on the S.S. Themistocles on 25th March 1936. Light creasing and small hole to centre, otherwise in good condition
